how i deal with my feelings

  • never talk about them
  • barely acknowledge them
  • hope they go away
  • i don’t, basically
  • that’s what i’m saying
  • i do not deal with my feelings

You know, Guardians of the Galaxy was not the first film I’ve watched in which Vin Diesel voiced a character that barely spoke and yet destroyed me with a single line of dialogue

You can’t see me, can you? You look at me, and you can’t see me. Do you have any idea what that’s like?

The Doctor, in Deep Breath.

But the thing is, Clara does know what that’s like. They didn’t address it in the episode, but it’s still important to note. The entire time she was with Eleven, that’s how he made her feel. He looked at her and didn’t see the person she was, he didn’t see the brilliant woman standing right in front of him. He saw Oswin from the Asylum, or he saw Clara the barmaid/governess. He saw a mystery waiting to be solved, a big knot waiting to be unraveled. The Doctor looked at her and saw so many things, some scary, some unfamiliar, but he never saw her. Eventually she called him out on it: “Well, whoever she is, I’m not her. You want to travel with me, that’s fine, but as me, not a bargain-basement stand-in for someone else. I’m not going to compete with a ghost.”

Now the Doctor has regenerated. He’s let down his guard in the most intimate way possible - he’s let her see, in a physical and psychological sense, just how old he is. He’s stopped trying to impress her, stopped “flirting” as it were, and is finally willing to drop all pretense - and she’s not having it. The same way Clara had to compete with her own ghost, now Twelve has to compete with the ghost of Eleven, and it hurts him so much. I think Twelve isn’t only hurt because he feels Clara won’t see him for who he is now, but he feels betrayed because Clara once asked the same of him and now she won’t return the favor when he needs it most.

sansaspark:

During the scene when Mulan decides to go to war instead of her father, she decides to do it while sitting on the foot of the Great Stone Dragon. The image of the dragon looking over Mulan is repeated several times throughout the sequence, and the bolts of lightning strike at significant times whenever the dragon is in sight. When Mulan takes her father’s scroll and when she is praying to her ancestors, the Great Stone Dragon can be seen. It is also engraved on the sword Mulan uses to cut her hair and the handles of the wardrobe containing the armor are in the shape of the dragon’s head. The dragon’s eyes glowing in the temple symbolizes Mulan’s role as protector of her family awakening, instead of the actual dragon.

The reason Mushu couldn’t wake the dragon is because the dragon was no longer there. Mulan is implied to be the Great Dragon that protects her family.
